Downtown San Diego Areas
A specialty market I work in is the sale of high rise condo sales in the Downtown San Diego market. There are many appealing options to choose from and an even more appealing selection of markets in the area. Below you can find some information on each of the areas...
Columbia District
Discover the ideal place to live at San Diego Bay. To watch the Cruise Ships arriving and departing from various vacation destinations. The Columbia District is also home to a thriving business district. Culture and convenience come to mind for this captivating area next to the waterfront. Here you can enjoy the MOCA (Museum of Contemporary Art) and the USS Midway Museum that served the United States for more than 47 years.
Core District
The Core District is the center of downtown. This area has a dense business district as well as entertainment. Easy access is the luxury of living in the Core District. There is the San Diego Civic Center which houses the performing arts. What better way to spend a day or evening enjoying the theatre arts.
There is also City Hall and the World Trade Center. The World Trade Center affiliated with an international network of over 750,000 international trading corporations. Within past 5 years there have been several new construction developments and hi-rise buildings with amazing views in the Core.
Cortez Hill
Cortez Hill is one of San Diego's oldest and eminent residential neighborhoods. This area was named after the historic El Cortez hotel. With close proximity to Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo and centralized location to the other downtown neighborhoods, Cortez Hill is an ideal place to reside.
Victorian style architecture is sprinkled among the neighborhood as well as the modern day high rise dwellings. There is now mixed-use throughout the community such as hotels, sidewalk cafes, dry cleaners, to the Little Yoga Studio.
East Village
The East Village is the largest area of Downtown San Diego´s 8 neighborhoods. Previously known for warehouses and vacant lots it is now known for trendy artists, social services and thriving businesses. This area is still growing architecturally and culturally. High rise residences and mixed use projects reflect the style of the East Village.
Gaslamp Quarter
The Gaslamp Quarter is one of the most popular, fun and well known areas in San Diego. This encompasses San Diego's urban shopping district, dining, entertainment and business district and is all within walking distance. The beginning of downtown San Diego started here. There are more than 90 historic structures located in the Gaslamp Quarter. The feel of the Gaslamp is energy and excitement, go out and discover!
Horton Plaza
Horton Plaza is the heart and soul of one of the great cities of the 21st Century. In 1867 Alonzo Horton a real estate developer bought 960 acres of waterfront land, and stated it was the best place for building a city. Today Horton Plaza with 7 levels through 6 ½ city blocks is a grand shopping and entertainment center with 172 shops, restaurants, boutiques and bistros and is named after Alonso Horton. High rise office buildings and condominiums also contribute to this thriving area.
Little Italy
Little Italy´s history includes the center of the tuna fishing industry as this neighborhood borders the waterfront. Once a predominate fishing town, Italian families have been establishing their families and businesses here since 1920. As a great grandson of an Italian immigrant and grandson of singer Perry Como, formerly a barber earning only a few cents a day, I can appreciate the hard work all the Italian families put into this charming neighborhood.
Marina District
The Marina District is one of the most sought-after, attractive places to live. Assorted styles of living include high rise, mid rise and townhome residences. Formerly known for warehouses and vacant lots this area is now known for the businesses, restaurants, shopping, the San Diego Convention Center and The New Children´s Museum, an environmentally sustainable building.
The Marina District is close to the premier California boating destination as well as being able to walk, bike, drive, ride the bus, take the trolley or dine in one of San Diego´s finest restaurants. Not only a beautiful neighborhood and community but located close to San Diego International Airport and Amtrak. If you want the convenience to be close to America´s finest city´s waterfront, this is the place to be.
